• Bocca della Verità, or "The Mouth of Truth" (Italian), is an ancient Roman wall mask made of marble. According to legend, you can tell if someone is lying by asking them to stick their hand in its gaping maw; if they lie, their hand will be devoured. Consequently, the legend holds, if they remove their hand fully intact and still attached to their arm, they must be telling the truth.
